Why  Homebirth?

...Because our bodies are made for this!

The decision to birth at home must come from one's heart. It must come with confidence and trust in yourself, your body, your baby, and ultimately the physiological birth process.

Women from all walks of life choose to birth at home.  The homebirth experience is filled with freedom and autonomy.  Every birth and every mother is treated with the reverence they deserve. Every mother follows their own path. You will birth at your own pace.

You and your baby will be monitored intermittently throughout your labor.  This gives you the freedom to move around and more importantly the freedom to follow your intuition, as mom's are often very intuitive of what movements, wiggles, rocking etc., needs to be done to bring their baby down.  You will be encouraged to eat and drink throughout labor. You will be surrounded by all the comforts of your home. Your connection to your body will tell you when you need to push. Your baby will receive all the richly oxygenated blood and stem cells from it's placenta, which are so vital for newborns as they transition in their life outside of your womb.  The first arms your baby will be in will be your own.  You will have undisturbed time with your newborn to establish breastfeeding. All newborn exams and newborn care will be preformed right next to Mama.

It is not a birth worker's job to "allow" a mother to do anything. It is our honor to be allowed into their birthing space to encourage, guide and enjoy the privilege of helping to welcome your little one to the world.

Give yourself the opportunity to tap into your power.

What does Homebirth care look like?

The majority of your prenatal care will take place in my home in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio.  During prenatals we will check in on how you and your baby are doing. This is our opportunity to get to know each other, and for me to hear about your desires for your birth. Much of our time spent together will be spent talking to one another. A good relationship between mama and midwife is crucial so that everyone can feel comfortable and cared for during labor  We will talk about birth and what that means to you. Our conversations will help foster  positive relationships, both with your baby and your body. I want you to go into your labor believing in yourself mentally and physically.  An important aspect of my care is helping mother's tap into their primal side. Connecting to your animal instincts in labor allows you to birth freely and uninhibited by your neocortex. Birth is a primal and pure state, if left undisturbed.

Later in your gestation, I will do a couple prenatal visits in your home so you can show me your space and I can get acclimated to where you hope to deliver. There is a small list of supplies I will ask you to gather by around 37/38 weeks gestation, just in case you are one of the few Mama's who go early.

We are in contact over the phone in early labor and I typically come to your home when you are in active labor. This will be discussed in much more detail in our prenatal care.  After your birth, I will remain with you and do a newborn exam and help you to establish nursing. I make sure you and your baby are doing well before I depart. I do postpartum check ins on day 3 postpartum, week 3 postpartum, and month 3 postpartum.  I am always just a phone call away for any questions that come up beyond this.
